This module maps the types of interruptions and distractions employees experience at work and their impact on concentration, productivity, and well-being. Four types are distinguished:
- Digital distractions: interruptions by notifications or self-use of work- or private-related digital tools such as email, Teams, Slack, or social media.
- Social distractions: face-to-face interruptions by colleagues, managers, or customers, whether initiated by others or by oneself.
- Environmental distractions: disturbing stimuli from the physical workplace, such as noise, ventilation, light, privacy, or other office conditionFs.
- Internal distractions: interruptions caused by one’s own thoughts, emotions, or cognitive fatigue, such as worrying, tension, or mind wandering.
